Bouillon is a surprisingly easy destination for families: between the castle, the animal park, nature walks, and the banks of the Semois, kids never get bored — and neither do parents. From our chalets in Corbion, just minutes from the town centre, we share our family-tested favourites, along with practical tips to help you enjoy your stay in the Belgian Ardennes worry-free.
Bouillon Castle, a journey through history
No visit to Bouillon is complete without its imposing castle, one of the oldest remnants of feudalism in Belgium. Kids love climbing the towers, exploring the underground passages, and watching the outdoor birds-of-prey display — a real spectacle that captivates even the youngest visitors.
Allow around 1.5 to 2 hours for the visit. Tip: go in the morning during peak season to avoid the crowds, and check the birds-of-prey show times before you go, as they vary by season.
Bouillon Animal Park, for animal lovers
A few minutes from the centre, Bouillon Animal Park is home to over 90 species from around the world. A playground lets the kids burn off energy while parents relax on the on-site restaurant terrace. Set aside a good half-day if you want to take your time and see everything.
The little tourist train, perfect for younger kids (and rainy days)
For families with young children, or simply on days when Ardennes weather turns unpredictable, Bouillon's little tourist train offers a fun way to discover the town without too much walking. A great way to take a break while still enjoying the scenery.
Family nature activities — kayaking, walks, and fresh air
The Semois valley is wonderfully suited to family outings. Kayaking is a safe bet for children from a young age — we've already shared our favourite spots in our article Kayaking in the Semois Valley (internal link).
For families who prefer to stay on dry land, over 70 km of marked trails start right from our chalets in Corbion — plenty of choice to find a walk suited to your children's age and energy, through shaded woodland and scenic valley viewpoints.
Good to know before you go
All these activities are within 10 to 20 minutes' drive of the chalets. During peak season (July-August, school holidays), we recommend booking your castle and animal park tickets in advance.
After a busy day out, it's time to refuel at our favourite local spots — more on that in our article on the best restaurants in the area (Link to the adresses).
Back to the warmth of the fireplace
Between history, nature, and fresh air, Bouillon has everything to keep both kids and grown-ups entertained without ever feeling repetitive. And after a day of adventure, there's nothing better than settling in by the fire, in one of our cosy chalets just minutes from it all.
